Here's our first look at Charlize Theron as Cipher, the antagonist in the upcoming installment of the Fast and the Furious franchise, Fast 8.
Details about the film are sketchy: the plot hasn't been announced, but it is well known that parts of the movie take place in Iceland and Cuba. Whatever happens on-screen, based on this photo, it looks like Cipher digs big guns and heavy metal.
Theron is the latest big Hollywood name to join a cast that will once again include Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, Eva Mendes, Kurt Russell, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson and Ludacris.
It's nice to see Theron starring in another movie whose plot is built around cars: her Stella Bridger character is one of our favourite things about The Italian Job, partly because she's one of the best drivers among an otherwise almost all-male cast. And while we wouldn't quite call The Fast and the Furious franchise a triumph of feminism, the films do at least cast women in interesting roles that involve more than looking pretty; Michelle Rodriguez' character, Letty Toretto, is as much a gearhead and driving enthusiast as the men she consorts with.
Fast 8 is set for release in the spring of 2017.
