Toyota has just priced the all-new Avalon premium sedan. The surprisingly striking big car will start at $42,790 in Canada.

The current Avalon isn't exactly an exciting model from Toyota, but the all-new 2019 Avalon changes that. Gone is the bigger but somehow blander-looking Camry style, in favour of a massive grille, sloping greenhouse, and even side skirts. We looked at the model up close earlier this year, but now we have more powertrain info and pricing.

The 2019 Avalon will come in two trims, one for sport and the other for luxury. The XSE model is the sporty one and is a new addition to the nameplate. It adds that big sport grille, a rear spoiler, 19-inch alloys, and a quad-tip exhaust. Underneath, XSE gets a sport-tuned suspension and a sound generator to add engine noise.

The Limited model is the luxury trim and adds premium features like LED headlights and 18-inch wheels that should give a softer ride. Inside, it has real wood and ambient lighting. The seats are semi-aniline leather, which shows off more of the natural hide. The XSE uses Ultrasuede and synthetic leather along with aluminum trim. Limited has a 10-inch head-up display and premium audio with navigation plus a surround-view camera system.

The new Avalon rides on Toyota's latest New Global Architecture platform, which the company says helps give a comfortable but spirited drive. The 3.5L V6 delivers 301 hp and 267 lb-ft which it puts to the front wheels through an eight-speed automatic.

The standard infotainment system is Toyota's latest Entune system and offers Apple CarPlay, the first time the brand has made that feature available. It has a 14-speaker JBL audio system and a 9.0-inch display. The car offers Toyota Safety Sense P that includes pre-collision with pedestrian detection and emergency braking, lane-departure alert with steering assist, automatic high-beams, and radar cruise control.

The 2019 Toyota Avalon is on sale now.
